Welcome to
Box R Caney Creek Cattle
Al Rogers had been in the commercial cattle business (Box R Cattle) in Normangee Texas for several years and one “request” totally changed his perspective on his direction for the future. Tera and Kimm (our daughters) made the request to get into competition and start showing cattle. Al decided if we were going to do this, everyone would get on board and do it to the best of our ability. Tera and Kimm were successful with winning Breed Champion in 1995 and 1996 at Fort Worth. At this point Al was hooked, he loved good cattle that were structurally correct and sound. After our daughters showing days were over and college started, Al could see that long haired cattle struggled in our climate and began searching for a breed that would perform well in the south. While at Sam Houston State University, Kimm met and married Mark Tesch a 3rd generation Brahman Breeder. Mark and Kimm made their home in Normangee Tx. and Mark wanted to continue with his breeding of Brahman cattle. Mark and Kimm chose the name “Caney Creek” because of the creek that ran through their land.
Al in his search for functional cattle and learning about the Brahman Breed from Mark, had the opportunity in 2007 to purchase (+)JDH Lady Sandy Manso 301/7 (a Madison daughter) and JDH Lady Barbra Manso 302/7 (a Liberty daughter). These two cows are the foundation of Box R Caney Creek Cattle.
Striving to produce structurally correct and functional cattle is a whole family affair. While at Texas A & M University, Tera met and married John Phillips and they have established JTP Cattle Company, a Registered Santa Gertrudis Breeder also in Normangee Tx.
Box R Caney Creek purchased our present herd sire, JDH Sir Leon Manso 776/6 (a Hawk son) in February 2016 and we are very excited about the structurally correctness he is putting in our cattle. We still use embryo transfer to take advantage of our best genetics.
